Chinese Hardstone Carvings

 

A pair of rock crystal boxes in the form of seated quails, intricately carved with detailed features on faces, tails, wings, feathers and feet; Qing dynasty (1644-1911); China. 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) long.

 

Gray-green Putai with gleeful expression seated on a mat with his sack and holding a rosaryk; Steatite (soapstone); 18th century; China. 3.4 inches (8.6 cm) high; 3.75 inches (9.5 cm) wide.

 

 

 

 

A miniature jadite screen overlaid with variegated soapstone and hardstone, theme of a scholar seated in a garden and attended by a sleeping servant who has neglected his tea service; gilt, shell and polychromed highlights; circa 1800; China. 6.25 inches (15.9 cm) high.
