An extremely rare and fine seal in the form of a mountain grotto, dotted with pine, bamboo grooves amongst the thick forest, upon rugged cliffs; inhabited by scholars in retreat and simple dwellings with thatched fence; two scholars seen riding on donkeys on a bridge with high stilts over a passing stream, one standing under a tree holding a zither and the other standing at the edge of the rock; incised four-character seal script; 18th century; Qing dynasty; China. 2.44 inches (6.2 cm) high; 3 inches (7.6 cm) long.

A rare white jade scholar seal of 'mutton fat' quality; carved loop for suspension with bevelled shoulders; carved seal in two-character seal script of Gu Fei (probably the owner's name); circa 1800 Qing dynasty; China. A rare pink and green tourmaline scholar seal with a water-buffalo finial reserved in watermelon tourmaline and the plinth in pink; carved chop in four-character seal script of Chun Gu Zhai Bao or the Treasure of Chun Gu (Spring Lotus-Root) studio; circa 1800; Qing dynasty; China. A rare jet scholar seal with a crouching Bixie whose belly arches against the rectangular plinth, forming the suspension loop; carved seal in six-character seal script of Deng Ping -- Shi Cang Shu or the book collected by -- in Deng Ping; inscription dated to the Autumn of bingxu year (corresponding to the year 1766); 18th century Qing dynasty; China. 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) long.

 

 

A scholar bai furong (white hibiscus) seal with finial in form of crouching Buddhist guardian lion on an elegantly-contoured plinth with low-relief gui dragon motifs; incised six-character seal script; 18th century Qing dynasty; China. 2.75 inches (7 cm) high.
